This tea is nourishing, rich in minerals and excellent to drink from the third month onwards, and throughout lactation.
Ingredients:
Raspberry leaf : tonic to the nerves, digestion and mucus membranes and high in iron, and has a special affinity for the uterus. Strengthens the uterine and pelvic muscles and helps prevent miscarriages. Soothe the kidneys and urinary tract and helps prevent haemorrhage. Helps ensure proper contractions during the third stage of labour.
Pregnancy tea post-birth
As soon as your baby is born, brew a pot of Pregnancy tea, adding ½ teaspoon of a mixture of equal parts of cloves, cinnamon and ginger powders to each cup. This brew warms the body, helps recovery from the birth, enriches breast milk and is delicious. Add honey to taste.
Lemon balm: although not specific for pregnancy or lactation, this plant gently relaxes the nervous system, and is a remedy for stress, headache, depression and insomnia. A digestive aid, helps alleviate intestinal gas with its anti-spasmodic properties. Mildly anti-histaminic, helps reduce allergies. Pleasant lemony flavour.
Spearmint: A lovely flavour, and helps to soothe digestion, ease flatulence and calm the nerves.
Oatstraw: a rich source of calcium and magnesium, calms nervous stress and tension. Helps reduce yeast infections during pregnancy.
Nettle : nettle leaves are a storehouse of vitamins and mineral – practically a vitamin/supplement in themselves. Tonic and antiseptic to the urinary tract. Native American women used nettle as a tonic throughout pregnancy and as a remedy for haemorrhaging during childbirth. Enriches and increases the flow of milk and helps restore the mother’s energy following childbirth.
Alfalfa : the roots of this plant reach deep into the soil, drawing up minerals and concentrating them in its leaves. Known to the Arabs as Al-Fal-FA (Father of all foods), because camels and horses thrive when given the leaves as food.
